alas, it is done. oh, this immense sadness that has washed over me! it was exciting yet frightening as i drew nearer to the end of the book and i wished the story would never end. but it did, and with great reluctance i put the book away on my shelf, where it will be for months to come till i will myself to pick it up once more. such is the way that i have dealt with all her previous six books, because the sense of loss is almost too much to bear.

but it is over, and while questions still linger, i can move on with my life now : )

well while i was going through some really horrible scenes with lord voldemort in it i was asking myself, how in the world did they settle for ralph fiennes for the coveted (or not) role of tom riddle!! when i think of ralph fiennes i always think of maid in manhattan (the movie with jennifer lopez)

also for a very bizarre reason i kept imagining ian mckellen acting as dumbledore! oh geezus i cannot imagine a gay acting as albus... not that gays are deplorable. it just seems so.. ill-fitting

and alan rickman fits severus snape's role perfectly! mwah mwah

grawp will be funny! i know that the movie for the order of the phoenix is supposedly 'not good enough', but we should just accept that it is impossible to include every single detail of a book in its movie and appreciate both as works of art (or at least the product of someone's very very very hard work) instead

all you silly people, hasn't reading the book taught you anything? be contented with what you have and stop complaining

you know what song is most appropriate for this moment? frank sinatra's My Way

hmm so, i admire wit in a person. so ravenclaws are my type. i seek loyalty in a person, so i like hufflepuffs too. (yeah well i suppose the quality of a gryffindor apply to almost everyone, no?)

With courage you will dare to take risks, have the strength to be compassionate, and the wisdom to be humble. Courage is the foundation of integrity. -Keshavan Nair

integrity, too, is an asset; of which numerous people these days sorely lack.

oh and, seeing that i was wasting time today, here's a list of famous women. which one can you relate most to?
today a stranger made my day and it made me put that little bit of faith back into humanity once more.

ven and i went to the city after our lecture today. i brought her to those little alleyways and we spent time there ooohing and aaaahing and feeling transported way back into time.

afterwhich she brought me to a chocolate shop. it's a little cafe around a corner which sells everythingchocolate in it! i loved it because it felt almost out of a scene from Pretty Woman. so i was trying to take a selfshot of the two of us when this kind gentleman who happened to be sitting at a table next to us offered to take the picture for us.

he was in his suit, probably just knocked off work, sitting there sipping coffee and eating chocolate... minding his own business, to say the least. so after helping us take the photo ven and i went into the store and started ooohhing and aaahing at all the different types of chocolate displayed

then i decided that we should buy ONE and split it into two since it's A$1.55 for one but only the size of a one dollar coin. so we scoured the display looking for something bigger than a fifty cent coin. i mean there were some that looked really delicious but were the size of a twenty cent coin so if we were to split it into two it's not maximising consumer surplus (HAHA what am i saying) because then we have less of the aftertaste to enjoy

so we took a really long time to decide and while we were deciding mr businessman gentleman comes in to settle his bill and says

"well you know which ones are the good ones? it's the ones in there." he points to some baskets full of chocolates behind the counter propped up against the wall. but the chocolates in the basket he pointed to looked weird. because it was just balls of chocolate coated in white powder and it looked more like sui buay (sour plum) PLUS it was a dollar extra, i think

then without waiting for me to respond he tells the cashier he wants to pay for his bill and proceeds to tell her to include two of those IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, WHITE CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES WITH SUGAR COAT, in his bill and to 'hand them to these young ladies'.

OH MY GOD! imagined the surprise i had! i was so flabbergasted i think i started squealing and we were saying so many thankyous like money just dropped from the sky. wow it was just so nice of him to do that. people don't usually do that, as you would know. i was so happy inside and he really really really really made my day especially since yesterday was just so goddamned awful and today was just boring.

then he wished us a nice day and was going on his way when i asked him to take a photo with us and he was so shy he said that 'it is kind of embarrassing!' ; ) imagine an adult man saying that! haha i really wish him good tidings and well..... he really made my day! what other way can i put this across. hmm!

we must have looked like 1)drooling idiots 2)poor kids 3)hungry and deprived people

so i didnt touch my chocolate ball till ten minutes later. i kept sniffing at it and trying to see if it's something funny when ven bit into hers and i think she started oral orgasming or something. though i was pretty perturbed by my 'sui buay' i decided to nibble into it and WOWWWWWWWWWWWWW it was so fantastic. it's white milky chocolate (though much finer and sweeter, not the milkybar kind yucks) wrapped with brown chocolate (like the timtam kind) and coated with a powder of some sort.

it was such a precious ball i nibbled it all the way so i could taste more of it for a longer span of time

the signpost!

one of the displays yumyumyum!

and this is the state library

my favourite busking act! they were playing bossanova and jazz tunes.. really really nice! playing the sax is very appealing ; )

well we went to target and our $27.95 deathly hallows book was sold out so we went to borders at melbourne central and we could not find any of it with the adult covers! we were on the verge of boxing ourselves when ven spotted four left in an inconspicuous corner. out of the four, two of them weren't in good condition though still readable, so we had two left for the both of us. lucky lucky us! because i really didnt want to buy the kid's cover. i paid $29.95 in the end.

i'm not even halfway through the book yet, funny how it isn't holding my attention as much as i thought it would have. it's possibly due to fatigue and distraction. and maybe because i've seen the word 'horcrux' so many times my eyes are crossed. i wouldnt say that i am feeling disappointed with it, it is still too early to judge. right now i just have several suspicions and questions running through my head. so many mysteries hmmhmm! i love a good mystery.

i'll most definitely be surprised in the end. i love surprises too : )

ah yes. sadly babyflutterby is coming to its demise soon. (oh dear, such death that engulfs us all.) and i have yet to decide if i want the new one to be Friends Only or not. what do you think?

take me away, fly me to the moon

luckily i vacuumed my room last week because i feel as if my whole body's about to collapse this week

i dont know why but i feel so tired

i think it must have been the past four months of vegetating at home so much so that my body's just waking up to the rigour of university life

not that it's really awful, it is kind of better than jc

but BOY OH BOY i miss having to do nothing at all!

and because i feel so tired i didn't go to the city today! because i ended at 3pm and i didn't want to rush all the way down before 5pm

OK OK i shall be honest. i was just tired and LAZY

tomorrow i only have ONE LECTURE so i end at 1230pm so tomorrow i DEFINITELY WILL head to the city to get my book

and i keep procrastinating!! again. because my tiredness makes me lazy. then when i finally perk up and reach for my books they are so boring the make me want to sleep.

ESPECIALLY my accounting book. omg. debits and credits, debits and credits. is it any wonder why anyone wouldnt fall asleep!! it's like, a cure for insomnia

fine. to be fair my management book is just as horrible.

but when i think of having to work at the ikea check-out counter my whole life for $5.5O an hour 6.50 on weekends and double on public holidays plus CPF + idiotic customers + bullies

i pry my eyelids open and trudge on.

actually. perhaps the reason why i'm not concentrating is because i've not read HP yet. and since it's kind of on the top of my priority list and it's not been gotten out of the way yet, i find it so very difficult to proceed on to other books like Financial Accounting harharhar

ARGH i just want to complain and complain and whine and whine to somebody!

i had such a horrid start to the morning

well i woke up later than i wanted to. i knew i was tired so i set my alarm clock to go off earlier so i can stroll to school at a snail's pace instead of walking at my usual pace (which is pretty brisk)

but i didnt get up. i hit snooze three times. why? because i was tired. obviously. so i finally dragged myself out of bed, got dressed, grabbed my bag and keys, got out of the house. and guess what. they were repaving the long stretch of pavement STARTING FROM MY DOORSTEP all the way to school.

what?!!! why today? of all days. why do you have to start from MY doorstep?!! please just shoot me. so not only could i not stroll to school, i had to take the longer route to school... which doubly meant that i couldnt stroll at all.

and i'm so temperamental these days. i miss home and i miss my dogs! i want to get away from here and fly home and be pampered by my whole family. ie having my meals prepared for me. UH i think i want my mommy?!!!

today i overfried my garlic! i had to do it all over again! it was so bloody troublesome. and it made me all the more upset and cranky with just everything in the world.

and there's you. ugh why do you infuriate me like that! you're just so maddening!!

ughh today was just a fucking bad day

i keep meeting morons who dont know me at all yet they think they do. and it just made me wish my close friends from home were here (or rather i was there, but i actually dont really want to be back in singapore now). then i wouldnt have to pretend to be nice and cheery and not minding what the fuck they are rattling. and i wouldnt have to watch my words and actions because with my close friends i can act really silly or crazy (esp when i'm feeling so tense and annoyed) without even telling them that i am not usually like that. in fact they would probably know that there is something that's troubling me

gosh... the crap that life throws at you... or the day you can't stop seeing crap in everything you do or in everyone you meet

i keep drinking pokka green tea and lipton peach tea (ahh nice! love it that they stock it in the vending machine in school) in hope that it would fray my temper

other than the fact that i love tea.. pokka and lipton are my best friends

after my lectures tomorrow i'm going to town to get the deathly hallows!! haha because target is selling it for $27.95 and that's so much cheaper even after converting it to SGD! oh my god i'm looking forward to laying my hands on it. funny how it has gotten all of us enthralled, regardless of age aye.

to be honest my excitement for the final book is so much less as compared to when book 5 and 6 came out. because i had nobody to get excited with, and also because i didn't know how much the retail price would be so i thought not to get it. also, i'm getting it for a very logical reason- since i've already read the first six books it'll be kind of silly not to know what finally happens in the end.

but still! i'm so thrilled. especially when mummy told me she thought of me when she walked past MPH and wanted to buy a copy and mail it to me. aww!! when book 6 came out she drove me to borders at 7am, i still remember! oh we're such kids.

and i'm pleased to say that people haven't been posting spoilers! ah love!

yesterday's weather was good : ) this what i see everyday as i walk to school. but it doesn't always look this fantastic...

turn left to school! and to the train station!

at swanston; in the city. the horse carriages i mentioned a few entries ago.

which carriage do you like?

i love those two horses! i'm sure 98% of the people walking past and admiring them (actually more like admiring the carriages pfft) don't notice that these poor horsies are MALNOURISHED. look at their ribs! and this particular horsie was so tired he kept shifting his weight on his hind legs. and they were obviously dying of thirst. i was so miffed.

after taking these photos i went up to the horsie and laid my palm on his face. it flinched at my touch. it must have been beaten then. i was absolutely fuming inside! i stroked it some more and it kept shying away from my touch. then i stroked its mane and sides before going back to stroke his face and it didn't flinch anymore. i just wanted the horsie to know that there is someone out there who appreciates what it has to do (stand there like a mannequin) and i hope it doesn't feel so unloved.

people just dont do much of that anymore do they. taking ten seconds out to make someone feel better.

it had such sad, sad eyes.

i don't know why but i feel so disappointed with you.

but at least you reminded me why falling in love with someone is the most frightening thing in the world

you're the reason that i won't

(so why is it that you unknowingly creep into my mind??!?!)

well since you're such a prick.. (omg i'm gonna sound like a geekazoid)
RIDDIKULUS!!!

(kel i know you are laughing... you=ron, me=hermione!) LOL

i went to the city today. first to spencer street then to bourke street and swanston street. after finishing shopping at spencer street i kind of ran for the train at southern cross station. i was one second behind another girl who was running for the train as well. one second makes a lot of difference though, just as soon as i got my two feet into the train the train actually started moving so i got slammed backwards onto the glass pane. thankfully it was heading in the flinders direction if not i would have fallen flat on my face and cracked my teeth in the process. (i'll look like my userpic up there hehe)

last night was really hilarious because just as i had my grocery shopping done i met phil and his friends so i had strong men helping me carry my bags home. and i did buy lots of heavy things. one big bottle of coke, one big bottle of green tea (pokka's great invention) and one big bottle of soya milk. amongst many others. and i told them that i was really happy to see them and phil's face looked like this -> -.- because he was lugging my grocery bags but in actual fact i was really pleased and surprised to bump into them! in the middle of the dark dark night too. fancy that!

and we decided that he would bang on the wall and if i can hear it it means that my room is next to his but apparently it isn't the case : P such silliness, really hehe

i cooked a sumptuous meal for dinner just now mamma mia! pho noodles in pork soup (the base) with prawns, fishballs and bak choy (that's my second favourite vege after kangkong yum yum). i'm a culinary genius

did i tell you about my brown curry incident. i wanted to cook thai green curry prawns the other night, so obviously i bought the green curry mix and coconut milk. but the coconut milk i bought was meant for puddings so when i fried it with the mix it turned brown like <s>sewage</s> caramel. fortunately it still tasted like curry.

i met a really nice american girl at the bus stop today. i was at chadstone and waiting for 624 home and we struck up a conversation. she goes to my campus! she's here for 4.5 months for an exchange program and she chose australia because she's doing research on the relationship between australia and the US on something something relationship for her last year of her bachelor's and in future her master's. she's so cool and her smile is colgate/darlie quality. it was so sparkling white i think i saw flashes everytime she smiled. and she had ten bags of clothes/shoes that she bought HAHA. she's from penn state! an hour and a half drive's away from new york. but i think the one that got a laugh out of both of us was this

'i really like it here, but like, the shops close at five almost everyday.' -gives me a frustrated look-

'yeah i know it's like my day at school is finally over and when i get to head out everything's closed. is it like that over at your place?'

'oh gosh nooo shops there close at like, ten??'

ah so you see, not only the asians make such comments : P

though very obviously, the two of us really like it here (though she misses her boyfriend a lot and he's a freako accountant with freako working hours.. he probably has a colgate smile too so when the both of them smile i'd go blind)

i also came across the seventh harry potter book today. it's only A$28 here!! and it's so much thinner than book 4, 5 or 6! i didn't buy it though. i caressed it, sniffed it and gazed longingly at it but i didn't get it. though kel my darling couldn't take it anymore (ie he couldn't control himself his fingers started spasming on his phone keypad) last night he had to text me to tell me ONE very sordid detail of the whole plot. this is what friends are for, evidently.

anyway, i decided that you shall not be the cause of my sullenness. driving me crazy is bad enough.

and this is very regrettable but i no longer feel comfortable enough to voice my innermost thoughts here. but since most of us phantom blog readers read others' blogs not with sincere intentions (mostly) but for mere entertainment purposes i guess it wouldnt really matter. i've found another place, but i'll update this occasionally with candy fluff and flouncy clouds kind of stuff.

hmm yes well, i suppose candy fluff stuff would be like... brainless stuff. well so, mr tomyum isn't korean afterall! hehe

i realised i've been sounding like a blubbering fool the past few entries

lest you think i have nothing better to do than to gush over another human,

i went to the bank today

teased my tutor/lecturer

i just finished writing eight pages worth of something educational

i bought an apron today for A$4 (it's really adorable it has blue and white stripes, darn old school) because i couldnt stand my clumsiness when washing dishes any longer

i stayed back till awfully late today just to get my laptop connected to the monash wireless network (mainly because i am computer code illiterate)

i came home and cooked dinner
my housemate walked out of her room and sucked in the fragrant aroma and said "smells sooo good"
oh i cooked a meal for ven last saturday too! i let her try my signature dish beef sukiyaki (well you know, the viets love their beef)

tidied up my desk

made more ice cubes

it's like, i'm a hippo or something. i keep running out of ice cubes and boiled water to drink. it's the one thing i do most often, boil water to drink.

well, i obviously was too tired to make my bed today

snore.

okay i'm damn tired hear me collapse on my bed

tomorrow ven (vietnamese friend) is coming over yay!! she's going to bring food too.. wah what if she brings over pho. why is laksa so hard to cook. how am i suppose to impress my friends like that!! it's true you know, when they ask you 'what language do you speak at home?' you're like 'uhhhhhhhhhhh let me see......' because it's usually rojak-ed. (like english, mandarin, hokkien, malay, singlish; for me, anyway) and they ask you what's the 'national' dish like and you'll be like 'uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh manymany!!' though frankly the only thing i wanna say is meepok, hokkien mee and chicken rice omgawd talking about it is making me salivate.

it feels kind of special to be singaporean though. except when you hear from your hongkong friend that the china people say that hk and singaporean people have terrible pronunciation of the chinese language. okay, i know that my pronunciation may not be fantastic, but i think i know more chinese songs than you know english songs. i even know baidu.com and that your first runner up for china idol is a butch who can sing the male part in a jacky cheung duet and actually sound just as good, if not better than him. and yeah, my higher chinese standard may be your elementary school standard, but i can speak a fairly reasonable and adequate amount of english/mandarin/hokkien (korean, vietnamese and french on the way) but can you speak anything else other than mandarin.. no, i suppose.

ok no offence i am just joking.. am in a jollier mood today : ) gosh i hope i can keep this up. the loneliness gets to me sometimes and i mope around in my room and cry like a baby.

i cant wait till taya (korean friend) moves here! right now she lives in another suburb (what was it, i can't remember, but definitely not near school) so it's such a drag. when she moves to malvern or caulfield we can go shopping together often hehe!! and she invited me over to have a korean feast. wah kimchi and bibimpap. i think she's really pretty (she looks like song hye gyo) and the funniest thing ever : P i liked it when she hugged me today though, it felt almost like a securing of our friendship. of course, the only reason why she hugged me was because she said the wrong thing and she felt so silly she just had to hug me and laugh at herself. : )

she lived in the philippines for a year with her sister because her dad worked there. and chris (french friend) lived there with his twin brother for four years. (double good looks!) back to taya and ven, i have so much fun with them. i probably amuse them because i keep asking them how to say this and that in vietnamese/korean. i'm better at korean though... taya keeps laughing because i keep spouting out korean phrases which i kope from the drama serials and i ask her funny things like how to say 'toilet' and 'stupid pig'. i tell her it's important because if i were to go to korea one of the most pressing things would be to find a toilet if i had to yeah?!! and there are many stupid pigs in the world anyway... pretty self-explanatory.

and you'd be surprised, the viets have access to korean dramas too. though i'm better at it than ven.. taya says i'm so good i can become a korean! hahahahahaha. actually, among the phrases i asked them to teach me was I Love You, I like You, He is Cute and they tease me because of that!! i think He is Cute is the best phrase to learn because then you dont have to put yourself through awkward nudges and obvious giggles because there's a likelihood he wouldnt understand it even if you yelled it at ten decibels anyway hehehe!!

oh yeah!! taya carries an electronic dictionary with her.. so one day we were so bored we started talking nonsense. me in my poorly constructed korean sentences and her fumbling her way through my horrid korean sentences and trying her best to translate it to english then back to understandable korean ha! then i asked her about names, which led to her lightbulb being lit up, so she decided to check out my name in korean. which is REALLY REALLY awesome. as you know, the koreans and japanese originally came from china, so some of our words sound and look pretty similar. in her dictionary, all you have to do is count the number of strokes for the chinese word and look for that chinese word, then it'll take you to the korean word. it's like a freaking zidian! awesome, awesome.

at first we couldnt find the chinese word for Huang (my surname), i dont know why, i think it's because i kept giving her the wrong number of strokes. -.- so i was getting really frustrated i just said "it means yellow! can you type yellow in!!" then she said 'oh YELLOW! Hwang!' she had to leave early but i think she was so excited about it she actually texted me my korean name

which is Hwang So Rim
she says it's a'jin cha pretty name in korea!'
jin cha means very or really
jin cha sarang hae means i love you very much (: P)
though i think So Rim sounds totally weird
but if it's a jin cha pretty name then so be it
Huang Xiao Ling sounds nicer though
when i see her next week i'm going to ask her if there was a mistake... then make her teach me how to write my name in korean(omg so exciting)

most people think that Xiao Ling is Little Bell translated in english but the chinese words that make up my name isn't exactly what you think they are. in fact they're pretty complicated. but anyway i did check up the zidian before (way back in sec3, i remember this very clearly. mostly out of interest... because i was wondering why my parents chose this name for me. especially since they cant read chinese words since they didnt study it) okay so here it is. my name means Little Bamboo! or Little Bamboo Shoots! is that even cute. am i supposed to feel spunkier because i now have pandas as friends.

little bamboo. hmmm. it feels kind of babyish. but it's regarded as something good, doesn't it. OK I JUST WIKI-ED IT!! here it is..

Bamboo's long life makes it a Chinese symbol of longevity, while in India it is a symbol of friendship. The rarity of its blossoming has led to the flowers' being regarded as a sign of impending famine. This may be due to rats feeding upon the profusion of flowers, then multiplying and destroying a large part of the local food supply. The most recent flowering began in May 2006 (see Mautam). Bamboo is said to bloom in this manner only about every 50 years (see 28–60 year examples in 'gregarious' species table).

In Chinese culture, the bamboo (zhú 竹), plum blossom (méi 梅), orchid (lán 蘭), and chrysanthemum (jú 菊) (usually, méi lán zhú jú 梅蘭竹菊) are collectively referred to as the Four Noble Ones (四君子). These four plants also represent the four seasons and, in Confucian ideology, four aspects of the junzi (君子 "prince" or "noble one"). The pine tree (松), the bamboo, and the plum blossom (sōng zhú méi 松竹梅) are also admired for their perseverance under harsh conditions, and are together known as the "Three Friends in Winter" (歲寒三友).

In Japan, a bamboo forest sometimes surrounds a Shinto shrine as part of a sacred barrier against evil. Also, bamboo (také 竹) indicates something of the second rank, (as a sushi set or accommodations at a traditional Ryokan (inn)). This comes from the Chinese phrase 松竹梅 (in Japanese, sho-chiku-bai), where pine (matsu 松) is of the first rank, and plum (ume 梅) is of the third.

A Vietnamese proverb says: "When the bamboo is old, the bamboo sprouts appear", the meaning being Vietnam will never be annihilated; if the previous generation dies, the children take their place. Therefore the Vietnamese tradition will be maintained and developed eternally.

four nobles ones, LEH. sacred barrier around shinto shrine, LEH. and i have two friends in winter, LEH. (taya must be the plum bossom and ven must be the pine tree then. : P) perseverance in harsh conditions! rarity of its blossoming! ok ; ) i like my name now. it's not so in your face 'wang zi cheng long' and it sounds kind of. demure.

ever wondered why your parents gave you the name they gave you?

oh yes. freakonomics says that my name was the number two most popular white name in the 1960s. which is fantastically old school i can almost imagine myself getting asked out for a date to the ice cream parlour and being driven there in a chevy; wearing a polka dotted minidress with pinned up messy hair. and even if i didnt get asked out i probably had a gramophone at home and if i was rich enough had a jukebox in my room... which would be the equivalent of a cd player now i suppose.

oh i also know how to say bad bad words in both languages too. as well as the basic ones like hello, goodbye, thankyou hehe! i would have enjoyed it a lot in a liberal arts college, i think, but i shall not dwell on that. anyway, it's not true that having a lot of asians here restricts your social circle to them only, who you want to mix with and what you want to do with your overseas education is entirely up to you. it is those who don't make full use of it then scoff or complain that should take a look at their lifestyles. in any case, asians are almost everywhere now, and many singaporean students studying in the UK or the states hang out with other asians as well. what's so wrong with that, we're all still different anyway. not all whites are just whites either

i've a swedish friend too!! but he doesn't really like swedish meatballs and he doesnt understand why we like pokky (he's REALLY. REALLY. MANLY.) and an aussie friend who looks like james dean with a colgate smile hyeh. if you dont know who james dean is please kill yourself. alright just for the sake of everyone he's an american actor who became a cultural icon; he died in a car accident. he has nice chisled features and when i think of him i think of marlon brando. somewhat.

okay once i handle vietnamese and korean i'll start with french... french isn't that easy

i want something thai though
like tomyum?
because <s>he's</s> it's hot

: P

It was then that i realised something.

It should have been me."

went shopping today again, very very therapeutic especially since i've been feeling sad of late. going to post out cheques tomorrow that would settle bills and such. ouch my legs are so cramped up now... i really overdid the (window) shopping. so many dresses i want to buy! and winter hats! and jeans! and tops! ah ah ah. anyway that's all over for now, no point harping over what can or cannot be bought since i'm already home (i did buy nail polish though since they were on sale, in my favourite colours too!). anyway, i rediscovered korean drama serials again YAY!! now i have this on top of the Simpsons, thanks. to all the guys out there, sorry ah, but my heart has been stolen. his name is kim rae won : D ho ho ho man i tell you there's something that differentiates him from the others like lee dong gun and lee byung hun. i think it's his relaxed and humorous personality and his very nice voice heh and especially his tallness and awesome shoulders and not-so-perfect shy-but-friendly smile. in the show i'm watching, he occasionally wears jeans and collared long sleeves with the sleeves bundled up at his elbows ohmygod it's so bloody bloody sexy... he really makes my heart go a flutter!! (which i think is worth mentioning, my heart hasn't gone a-fluttering in a bloody long time. or maybe it did but i was just clueless :( someone who's able to give me that feeling should drop from the skies right now seriously then i can giggle to myself and feel stupid) my korean friend (she's a girl i met in school :P) finds me so amusing (she hasn't seen the other singaporeans yet!! i'm very moderate by comparison) but it was so hilarious when she asked if i knew who RAIN was and we whipped out our ipods to see which song of his we had. okay don't get me started.

i want to talk about the people i've met but i'll leave it for another time! am enjoying myself, i'm happy : ) and i don't only have asian friends alright. i have a french friend now. and an aussie one as well (psst he looks like james dean omg!). i received a notification of a package that i've received! i wonder who it's from hehe! i can only get it on tuesday though. i reached home pretty late today and it was a freezing jungle out there jeez. my fingers were so numb my keys slipped and fell from my fingertips as i fumbled for the right key and almost fell into a drain. imagine what i was saying out loud because if i'd lost the key i wouldn't be able to get into the house. aye, will reply emails soon! sorry i've been caught up with some stuff over here : )

*

You can tell the world you never was my girl
You can burn my clothes when I'm gone
Or you can tell your friends just what a fool I've been
And laugh and joke about me on the phone

You can tell my arms to go back onto the phone
You can tell my feet to hit the floor
Or you can tell my lips to tell my fingertips
They won't be reaching out for you no more

But don't tell my heart, my achy breaky heart
I just don't think it'd understand
And if you tell my heart, my achy breaky heart
He might blow up and kill this man
Ooo

You can tell your ma I moved to Arkansas
Or you can tell your dog to bite my leg
Or tell your brother Cliff who's fist can tell my lips
He never really liked me anyway

Oh tell your Aunt Louise, tell anything you please
Myself already knows that I'm okay
Oh you can tell my eyes to watch out for my mind
It might be walking out on me today

But don't tell my heart, my achy breaky heart
I just don't think it'd understand
And if you tell my heart, my achy breaky heart
He might blow up and kill this man
Ooo

hello! today is my birthday so happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday to mememememe! (happy birthday america! thanks for bringing simpsons back to life. i used to watch it when i was little then i grew out of it because it just wasn't funny anymore but now it's simply fantastic!)

this photo was taken on the day peter, ngiap and philip decided to surprise me with a birthday cake! it was a night of balloons, insufficient food and tiny bombastic fireworks.

i just discovered that the simpsons at 6pm is the old season's but from 730pm to 830pm it's 2007's season wow so i wont watch the 6pm one anymore hehehe. so much satire and not discriminatory either (such that it doesnt target just a particular race/group) so it's hard to feel offended PLUS there's mostly a moral to be learnt in every episode. it's almost like watching Last Comic Standing every monday nights while i lie in bed because i can't stop chuckling to myself; it's a stand up comedy programme. i also watch desperate housewives and grey's anatomy whenever i remember.. can't seem to memorise the tv schedule.. but all's the better.

so first up for today's episodes were

1) lisa's new love for soccer.
she was watching Bend It Like Beckham and ah poo was there cheering for jasminder's parents because they wanted her to marry a fellow indian. it was so funny because ah poo starting cheering in the cinema and popcorn was being thrown at him by lisa and her friends

lisa is wearing her soccer socks
homer barges in and says "wow lisa why are you covering up your shins. back in my day girls were more concerned about their boobs!"
lisa: "i'm going for my soccer match, dad."
homer: "oh great do you want me to fetch you?"
lisa: "you already promised, dad."
homer: "oh dang do i have to?!"

2) marge becomes hooked onto computer games. and she was unknowingly in the same game as bart!!

3) bart was expelled from school for a prank that he didnt do so his parents decided to send him to a catholic school cos it's cheap (omg). before that homer threatens bart with a "if you get expelled one more time i will send you to the army in america to fight for the kuku leader." (george bush haha!) then bart meets a reformed irish priest who said he used to be a drunkard (omg typical irish stereotype) and while he was fighting with his drunk dad st augustine appeared in front of him... when bart goes home he's so influenced he says his prayers in latin (i think?) and marge becomes worried because in the future he wont be allowed to use condoms (hahahaha). she insists that bart be taken out of school so homer drove to the school to speak to the irish priest but gets introduced to the ways of catholicism in the end. homer eventually converts but mainly because of the idea of confession. obviously he thought he could absolve himself from every wrongdoing just by confessing.. except that he forgot to repent.

homer starts confessing: "i masturbated 83 times today and i dont intend to stop in the future."

then marge has to go to church on her own because she's protestant.. and the next scene was when she was in protestant heaven where everyone was elegantly dressed and speaking in brit accents while homer and bart were in the 'inferior' catholic heaven in a wild party. (in the middle of all of this lisa actually converts to buddhism.)

theme: religion
moral of the story: religious tolerance and understanding
what i was thinking: man the IRA should see this

scene where homer makes friends with irish priest
irish priest: want to play bingo?
homer: oh YAY i love that game! but i always forget what to say when i win.
irish priest: bingo.
homer: oh YAY i love that game! but i always forget what to say when i win.
irish priest: bingo.
homer: oh YAY i love.....
irish priest: ................

*

OK. so today i made a call to hewlett packard because i've been having hardware problems for my laptop (or so i thought i was because that was what the singapore department told me). thank god i did if not i would have gone all the way down to st kilda's and that is not where they provide services for customers. first i called the HQ, whose number's stated in the manual and they directed me to the customer service line. this ah poo sounding like man picks up and gave me half the required instructions so i had to call back fifteen minutes later because i was stuck. when i checked my sim card about A$10 was shaved off and i was very disturbed by that because i didnt think that calls within the state or calls within the country would cost that much.

then i call back later to have a woman sounding like ah poo's wife who did help me with my problem. turns out it's probably a battery problem so they are actually sending me a free battery by post (customer satisfaction at it's max i see)! so exciting i can pretend i received a birthday present by post. anyway! while processing my details on the computer she goes dead quiet for three minutes and i thought the line got cut off so i frantically yelled into the phone hellohello because if i were to call back i probably would get another operator.

she apologises: "i am sorree mam, our system here is quite slow."
i ask: "so am i calling sydney?" (not implying that things in sydney's slow ok, i just had the impression that HQ was there.)
she says: "no mam. you are calling INDIA."

i am silent for two seconds.
then i said the first thing that came to my mind because i was really surprised: "REALLY?" (which just fell short of ARE YOU F-KING KIDDING ME NO WONDER YOU ARE DEPLETING MY SIM CARD VALUE and the worst part was half the time i was just kept waiting.)

then she says: "yes mam."
i dont know why i said this but i said: "oh. i like prata."

so another ten dollars just flew off like that. i just knew it had to be since fifteen minutes was gone and the previous conversation was fifteen minutes=ten dollars. hewlett packard is so bad! they state the number that is located in india and they dont state it on their website! how could they! if they did i obviously would have tried to find a cheaper way to call bangalore or mumbai or sri lanka ok. stupid MNCs. it's a conspiracy i tell you. they hide this information from us so that the service providers can earn money from us poor commoners (in this case i am a VERY POOR STUDENT).

she didnt really have anything to respond to that prata comment y'know. she could have at least said "i make the best pappadum." so anyway i decided to talk to her to ease the awkward silence.

me: "so you will actually send the battery to me by post yeah?"
her: "yes mam. it will reach you in two to three working days."
me: "wow postage from india to australia quite fast nowadays yeah? you gonna express deliver it?"
her "no mam. this data will go back to the office in melbourne then they will post the battery to you, mam."

SERIOUSLY. WHAT THE FUCK. A$23 just flew off my sim card JUST LIKE THAT. i could have done so many things with that you know. i'm not exactly living in a cheap city.

*

i miss my dogs. boohoo.

look at them, they look so silly. i took this on the afternoon i left singapore. took them out for a walk around the neighbourhood.

solemn fluffy and panting fluffy.

wolf-looking jingle. angel silly looking poofy jingle.

coco.

*

you can see my neat bed (it's just a show!) with orange polka dots on one side and checks on the other (dual quilt cover ok). you can see my tv, my hot pink laundry basket, minifridge and philip can you see your heart on the top shelf!
sorry i just haven't been able to muster any energy or brain juice to blog. it's the kind of situation where you want to blog and there's something in your head but nothing significant actually forms then you decide it's not so important then you proceed to do other things. there is nothing much to watch here so please appreciate your tv channels back home. i watch the simpsons every evening while i cook or have my cooked dinner (depending on what time i get home. nowadays i actually make it a point to get home to catch it at 6 because it's the only highlight in my life wow) and every night as my thoughts drift away in bed i watch wimbledon on my overhead tv. last night's match was fantastic. safin versus federer. two world class players competing in a world class match. occasionally i also watch the AFL but i think it's just to admire their masculine faces (harhar). anyway, today was good because i finally went to town as i said i would : P i found the trenchcoat that i wanted in my size (VERY VERY FORTUNATE cos it was the last piece) size 6 (thank god i didnt get the size 8 two weeks ago. size 6 is a perfect fit!), a pretty babydoll capsleeved dress, three necklaces from Diva which cost only A$3 each cos they were on sale (definitely worth it because it's still cheaper even if you convert it to SGD AND there's more variety here) and an adorable pair of handwarmers. i also did the grocery shopping, which i think is starting to be a pain in the ass because it gets really heavy for me sometimes. thankfully i like to cook so grumblings will only be grumblings and nothing more. pictures will be up soon! i really do have things to say now but i'll leave it for another time. bye.

today was totally outrageous

the winds were very gusty i was blown sideways while walking on the sidewalk
if i were any lighter i'd fly

AND my mail got soaked
what is the point of a letterbox if your mail gets soaked? please, just leave my mail on the ground thanks so i neednt fish for my keys to find wet letters

so my debit card and cheque book finally arrived (where's my credit card?!) but they were wet so i decided to quick dry them on my heater

i didnt hang them over the vents.. i just placed them right over it.
till i heard CRACKLING noises
but they weren't up in flames but another minute or two i bet they would have!

prison break season two final episode later!! : )

i think i shall go to town this sunday! aussie sales yay. and drop by hewlett packard because i'm experiencing some hardware problems srslyy they better not charge me anything just because i cannot find my international warranty card because i pay a bomb for a hewlett packard product not to get something that is wrong with it no matter how trivial and for me to make enquiries back to singapore just for them to tell me i have to troop all the way down to find you, HP

if you're gonna charge me, GIVE ME FREEBIES
like: free mouse, free photoprinter with photopaper, free DVD player

just joking ah i'm so bored

the aussie dollar just keeps getting stronger and stronger
1) if i want to go to town to shop i dont think saturday is a smart choice
A$6.30 full day ticket versus SUNDAY SAVER A$2.50 full day ticket

so i either SLEEP IN on saturdays or do my groceries on saturday + laundry
although since i'm such a pig and should my food run out i can always do my grocery shopping ANY DAY

anyway, much as i want hotter weather to come, i think winter is very nice for sleeping in
it's like sleeping in aircon and walking around in aircon
ooh hibernation

i'm gonna do my grocery shopping tomorrow
just because i am free

just because, honey, just because
my heart's still the same, wouldnt you know?

2) food here is very expensive. i cant wait to have my monthly jap meal at flinders
(cant possibly be cooking every day, can i?) so i guess that makes my SUPER SUNDAY trip worthwhile yumyum

I REALLY MISS SAMBAL KANGKONG!! versus SALAD : O
AND MEEPOK. versus PASTA.
and CHICKEN RICE. didnt think i'd miss chicken rice though hmm.

i fried really nice prawns with shoyu today yumyum
i actually really enjoy cooking (just that none of you out there can imagine me being such a domestic goddess okok)

DAPH/AMY your sticky elephants and flowers are on my mirror! very gorgeous : )

anyway, just something i was told to by a friend
male marketers tend to be spenders (gasps)
male accountants tend to be savers (gaspsgasps)
and that accountants really arent boring boring old stooges

then she said that she'd rather marry a spender so that he'll be more willing to spend on her
while i argued that it may be better to marry a saver (saver, not stingy nuthead) because it shows reliability and a good sense of responsibility + saving equals more money to spend next time

interesting
